You can't turn back the hands of time. But you can give your skin the appearance of being younger and healthier by following a good skincare regimen.

Because skin changes with age, a man's skincare regimen should also evolve. Cleanser, moisturiser, and sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15 should all be part of your daily routine. This trio of products should serve as the foundation of your regimen, with everything else serving as an extra perk.

WHAT DOES A SKIN CARE ROUTINE ENTAIL?

In order to keep your skin healthy and looking its best, you'll want to establish a skincare programme.

There's a chance you're scared off by the prospect of all of this. It's not difficult, however. Consider it analogous to having a bath or a shower.

If you're like most people, your morning shower includes shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. That has become a cliche!

If anything, a men's skincare regimen may include a few extra stages.

1. Cleanse

When Should You Cleanse?

Cleanse at least once a day, preferably in the evening. This is something you should do every day to keep your skin healthy. For oily skin, wash your face first in the morning with a gentle cleanser.

Wash your face with simple water in the morning if you have dry or dehydrated skin. (AM) Cleansing should only be done in the evening.

Why Should You Cleanse?

You're doing more harm than good to your skin by dialling up the temperature in your shower to searing hot and using a harsh soap or face scrub. It's as if you've unleashed a terrible army on your face. In spite of the fact that it will surely clean you, it is anything but gentle.

Your skin will not become dry or wrinkled if you use the correct cleanser, which is gentle. If you have gathered residue, debris, and extra oils on your skin after using other products, this will clear them off. Think of it as a way to get your skin ready for the following treatment.

What Are the Signs That Your Cleanser Is Too Harsh For Your Skin?

It's simple; there are a few clear indicators, such as tight, squeaky, or unpleasant skin. You may also notice an increase in blackheads. Keep in mind that your skin's natural PH balance is between 4.5 and 5. You'll notice greater irritation and breakouts if your cleanser has a high alkaline content.

What You Should Know:

A common misconception is that after cleansing, you should splash cold water on your face. It will not help to seal your pores or keep the filth out.

Stop using your tools if you're having problems with your face, such as red bumps/patches or roughness. For 2-3 weeks, put away the washcloths, sponges, and other cleaning tools and scrub solely with your hands. You may notice a difference and, over time, gradually reintroduce these items into your routine. If that doesn't work, try using a chemical exfoliant instead of a physical exfoliant. Below, I'll go over this in greater depth.

2. Exfoliate your skin

When Should You Exfoliate?

Once or twice a week is sufficient. If your skin appears to accept it, gradually increase the number of times each week. Reduce the frequency of your exfoliation if your skin becomes sensitive or dull.

For most men with oily skin, this should be done twice a week. Men with dry skin, on the other hand, should only exfoliate once a week.

Exfoliate for the following reasons:

  • When you exfoliate, you are removing and sloughing off the dead skin cells and crud that have grown up on your body. Your skin will become less dry by facilitating a normal skin-cell turnover rate. Not to mention that it aids in the unclogging of your pores and helps to prevent ingrown hairs after shaving. However, don't expect exfoliation to magically remove blackheads and pimples; it doesn't work that way. Even if it can, at times, feel like it should.
  • Exfoliating, like cleansing, is an important step in getting ready for your next skincare product. They will be able to penetrate deeper if you exfoliate.
  • Exfoliates are divided into two categories: manual (physical) and chemical (chemical). The best line of action for most men is to use a chemical exfoliator. It must, however, be done appropriately to avoid irritation.

3. Masks and spot treatments

When Should You Use Them?

As required. Consider them as an extra step in your skincare routine.

You can use a spot treatment over or beneath your moisturiser, depending on your preference.

Why Do You Need Spot Treatments?

Investing a little more in your skincare routine will assist with acne, hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, and other issues.

Treatment for Acne:

If you have a painful pimple, a spot treatment can help you avoid picking at it. Because you're not only spreading bacteria, but you're also risking permanent acne scars if you do. The truth is that an effective spot treatment will also be antibacterial and anti-inflammatory.

Allow a benzoyl peroxide lotion-like Touch Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5 percent to soak for several minutes before rinsing it off if you have acne. The goal is for it to soak in thoroughly. This is where most men rush the process and lose their effectiveness; don't do it.

4. Moisturise:

When Should You Moisturize?

Whenever you clean your face, including shortly after a shower.

Moisturize for the following reasons:

  • You must moisturise your face if you do not want it to feel like sandpaper to the touch. It's a must-have for soft, supple, and healthy skin.
  • Keep in mind that whenever you scrub your skin, you're also removing all of your body's natural and healthful moisture. It's critical to replace that depleted supply because otherwise, your skin will become dry, dehydrated, dull, and sensitive.
  • You'll only make things worse if you don't moisturise after using benzoyl peroxide or chemical exfoliates, for example.

What You Should Know:

Try a gel instead of a moisturiser if you have oily skin and don't want the shine that comes with it. If the gel doesn't work, try a mild lotion or an occlusive dressing (water trapping ingredient).

Stop and inspect the ingredients if your skin doesn't feel moisturised after moisturising, or if it burns or tingles. You'll need to switch to a different type of skincare. However, if it doesn't work, you have another choice to think about. At night, sleep with a humidifier and an occlusive substance like Vaseline. Before you go to bed, apply it to your driest regions.

5. Use a Sunscreen

When should you use sunscreen?

Every day, without fail. All four seasons, including the winter, are shown.

Use a sunscreen with at least an SPF of 15, but preferably one with an SPF of 20-30 or higher. You can also look for a moisturiser that has an SPF. The AM Moisturizer by Tiege Hanley, which is included in all of their Men's Skin Care Systems, has an SPF of 20 and is a fantastic place to start.

Apply 1/4 teaspoon to your face and 1/4 teaspoon to your neck. Keep in mind that this is a common face size; each man's requirements will vary.

Why You Should Use Sunscreen:

If you want to avoid dry, wrinkled, and discoloured skin in the long run, you must use sunscreen. You'll notice a thicker, leathery skin tone after being exposed to the sun's harmful UV radiation. That, though, isn't necessarily a good thing. The truth is that your skin will become weaker and more prone to bruising.
