Directions Hair Lightening Peroxide 30 Volume

Product Overview

Directions Hair Lightening Peroxide 30 Volume (9 %) is a cream peroxide developer intended for hair bleaching and lightening tasks. It is designed to be mixed with a lightening / bleach powder (such as Directions’ own bleach) to activate lifting of natural hair pigment.

The 30 Volume strength provides moderate to strong lift (depending on hair type, condition, and mixing ratio) while aiming to balance effectiveness and damage risk.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Moderate Bleaching Strength
At 9% concentration, 30 Vol is often used when you need noticeable lift (several levels) without immediately resorting to very aggressive developers.
  • Cream Formulation
The creamy consistency gives better control over application, reducing drips compared to liquid peroxides.
  • Compatible with Blue‑Tinted Bleach Powders
It’s meant to be paired with bleach powders (e.g. Directions’ Lightening Bleach) for effective lightening.
  • Salon / Professional Volume
Commonly available in 1 L bottles (salon size) for full-head bleaching uses.
  • Inclusion of Conditioning / Supportive Ingredients
The formula includes stabilizers and emollients (e.g. cetearyl alcohol, paraffinum liquidum) to buffer the peroxide and improve handling.
  • Safety & Product Warnings
The product page outlines cautions: avoid use on irritated scalp, broken skin, or hair previously treated with metallic dyes or henna.

Why Choose This Product?

  1. Balanced Lift
30 Vol offers a good middle ground — more lift than 20 Vol, but less aggressive than 40 Vol—making it suitable for many bleaching jobs.
  2. Better Application Control
Cream consistency gives more manageable handling, reducing drips and better coverage.
  3. Professional / Larger Quantity
The 1 L size is cost-effective for regular use or larger bleaching workloads.
  4. Brand Compatibility
Because it’s from the same brand (Directions), you get better predictability when combining with their bleach powders, kits, toners, etc.
  5. Buffering & Supportive Ingredients
The inclusion of emollients may reduce harshness / improve resilience compared to pure peroxide.

However, note that 30 Vol is stronger and faster-acting than lower volumes. If your hair is fragile, over-processed, or brittle, caution is needed.

Use this as a general guideline. Always refer to the instructions included with your product, and do patch and strand tests.

  1. Patch & Strand TestAlways test a small patch of skin 24–48 hours before full application.Test a strand of hair to see how your hair lifts with that mix.
  2. MixingUse a non-metallic bowl (plastic, ceramic) and a non-metallic brush.A common ratio is 25 g bleach powder : 75 ml cream peroxide (adjust for consistency). Mix well to a smooth, creamy, lump-free consistency.Use immediately (the mixture is active only for a limited time).
  3. ApplicationBegin application on dry hair.Start on mid-lengths and ends first (those take longer to lift), then apply to roots last (roots process faster due to scalp heat).Work in small sections for even coverage.
  4. Process / Development TimeMonitor progress, usually every 5–10 minutes.Don’t exceed maximum recommended time (as per the product instructions). If hair is resistant, avoid leaving mix past safe times—rather remove and reapply fresh mix rather than overexposing.
  5. Rinsing & CleansingOnce desired lift is reached, rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.Use a gentle, color-safe shampoo to cleanse residual product if needed.Follow with a deep conditioner or hair mask to restore moisture and strength.
  6. Aftercare / Additional ProcessingAfter bleaching, hair will be more vulnerable. Use bond-repair treatments / conditioning protocols. If you’re going to tone or apply color, ensure hair has recuperated sufficiently.
